Bennett, a 5-9 guard/forward from Houston, Texas, comes to the Toreros after a stand-out high school career at Pearland High School. As a junior and senior, she was named first-team All-District 24-5A, and the Defensive and Offensive Player of the year in 2008. She averaged 13.7 ppg as a senior and 18.0 ppg in District games. She also dished out 3.2 assists per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and averaged 1.2 steals per game. She ranked in the top-5 in the city of Houston in three-point shooting as a junior and was named to the All-State Academic Team for Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as a senior. She has been a member of the National Honor Society from 2005-09 and carries a 3.7 GPA into USD. She is also a member of the Science National Honors Society.
"We are very excited about the addition of Julia Bennet to our team," said Fisher. "She is an amazing young woman who will bring great athleticism and versatility to our team. Julia is an outstanding student with strong character and will make an immediate impact at the University of San Diego."
Bennett was heavily recruited by the University of Houston, Wichita State University, North Florida University and Liberty University, but chose to attend USD because she loves the San Diego area, and is intrigued by the outstanding Law School at USD.
Bennett also notes that she is an artist and is proud to have been at the inauguration of current United States President Barrack Obama.
