Final Stats
(Albuquerque, NM) - The Pit/Bob King Court is one of the toughest college basketball environments to play in for visiting teams, and it was no different for the USD Toreros (1-4) who dropped a 75-46 decision to the New Mexico Lobos (4-1) in front of 14,661 spirited red-clad Lobo fans. Sophomore forward Ken Rancifer paced the Toreros with a game-high 19 points, but was the lone San Diego player in double digits. New Mexico's Jamal Fenton led the Lobos with 16 points, including 4-7 shooting beyond the three-point line.
The youthful Toreros got out of the gates with a 5-0 lead, and led 13-12 at the second media timeout (11:26 mark). From there it was all New Mexico as they closed out the half on a 20-5 run. After 20 minutes of action UNM had converted 52.4% from the field (11-21) to USD's 30.8% (8-26). In the 2nd half the Lobos were just as impressive, outscoring USD 43-28 over the final 20 minutes.
For the game UNM shot an even 50% from the field (25-50) and made 8-17 threes. USD finished the game converting 37% from the field (20-54), but managed to make just 3-of-18 three-point attempts. Rancifer owned all three makes beyond the arc on six attempts, and also had a team-high 7 rebounds. His 19-point effort was a season-best, and just one point shy of his personal best of 20 set at the WCC Tournament against Portland in last season's final contest.
UNM outrebounded the Toreros 37-26, and dished out 18 assists to USD's 10. The Toreros return to San Diego to play three games in seven days beginning with UC Irvine at the JCP on Dec. 1st (7pm).
