10 Questions with Maja Sujica

March 1, 2011

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- Even if you don't see University of San Diego junior Maja Sujica on the court during a particular match, you can't miss her ever-present positive support and her "so good" compliments that she is known to routinely pass out to her teammates. Sujica, who hails from Zagreb, Croatia, is one of the Toreros' three juniors who have taken on the role of mentors for USD's large crop of newcomers this season.

After earning second-team All-West Coast Conference honors in doubles last season with partner Juliette Coupez, Sujica has gone on to post a perfect 3-0 singles dual match record in 2010-2011 and a 5-3 singles mark combined with the fall. She has also teamed with freshman Anna Depenau in doubles this season as the pair has gone 4-1 in doubles action so far.

As a freshman in 2008-2009, Sujica earned first-team All-WCC recognition in doubles with Tammy Kevey after tallying a 16-5 dual record. Back home in Croatia, Sujica was a member of the under-14 and under-16 Croatian National Team, while winning national championships in the 14U and 18U age groups. She also captured the Croatian senior championship in singles and mixed doubles en route to a No. 180 junior ITF ranking.
