SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In an unusual situation, the Toreros played the opening game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the SDSU Softball Complex against the Saint Louis University Billikens which resulted in a 4-0 loss.
The Toreros evened up at 8-8 on the season while the Billikens improved to 15-5.
The Billikens took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as USD battled to even up the score. The Toreros made a move when Megan Walsh hit a single to third base beating out the throw sparking Lauren Tomey to hit a single through the right side moving Walsh to second base. Unfortunately the two-out inning was cut short when Kylie Ordos struck out. Saint Louis put up two more runs in the fifth inning and one more run in the sixth inning to go on to win 4-0.
From the circle Cassidy Coleman pitched 4.1 innings striking out five batters allowing five hits and three runs. Jenny Lahitte pitched 2.2 innings of work striking out three batters in relief.
San Diego returns home to the confines of Torero Stadium where they will host the San Diego Classic II opening Friday with two neutral games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. while the Toreros open the weekend against Ohio State at 7:00 p.m.
