ARIZONA - The 24-ranked Toreros took the court in Arizona Saturday afternoon against Denver at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. USD took care of Denver by sweeping the doubles action and outlasted the Pioneers in singles action.
The Toreros were led in doubles action by their No. 1 tandem of Nikola Bubnic and Thibaut Visy, who defeated Fabio Bonin and Jens Vorkefeld 8-4. San Diego's No. 2 tandem of Ciaran Fitzgerald and Patrick Pohlmann defeated Othar Kordsachia and Yannick Weihs by a score of 8-4, while the No. 3 tandem of Krammer and Biasion took care of Pugliese and Spinosa 7-6.
In singles action, Bubnic defeated Bonin in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 6-2). Pohlmann defeated Weihs in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). Visy defeated Vorkefeld in three sets (7-6, 4-6, 1-0). Krammer defeated Fitzgerald in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 1-0).
"Our guys played really solid today and all weekend," San Diego head coach Brett Masi said. "Been three big road trips in a row and I feel really good where the team is right now and how we are playing.I'm especially happy with our doubles so far."
Next Friday the Toreros travel to Los Angeles to taken on Southern California. Matches are set to begin at 6 p.m.
