2013 Academic All-PFL Team
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Seven members of the Torero football team were named to the PFL All-Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Quarterback Mason Mills, defensive end Blake Oliaro, linebacker Troy McClelland, and safety Robbie Beathard were selected to the First Team. Tight end Thomas Cobbs, linebacker Michael Ruffino, and defensive tackle Clint Johnson represented the Toreros on the second team.
It was the third time Beathard and Oliaro have been named to the PFL All-Academic First team, making them the 29th and 30th student-athletes ever to be named to the First Team three times in their career. Beathard, a senior and San Diego native, is majoring in accountancy and holds a 3.78 cumulative G.P.A. Oliaro (Folsom, Calif.), a mechanical engineering major, has a 3.50 G.P.A. Both Beathard and Oliaro were also named to the Capital One District Eight Academic First Team.
Mills (Coronado, Calif.), who was named the PFL Offensive Player of the Year, has a 3.29 G.P.A. while majoring in finance. McClelland, a San Diego native, boasts a 3.85 G.P.A. while majoring in accountancy. McClelland was a First Team selection last year and was named to the Capital One District Eight Academic First Team last month.
Senior tight end Thomas Cobbs (Irvine, Calif.) was named to the Second Team after posting a 3.62 G.P.A. while majoring in finance. Senior linebacker Michael Ruffino (Napa, Calif.) was honored for his 3.35 G.P.A. in electrical engineering. Senior defensive tackle Clint Johnson (Wheatland, Calif.) posted a 3.56 G.P.A. while majoring in history.
The Toreros' seven All-Academic selections ranked third in the PFL, behind Dayton and Drake, who each had ten honorees.
