SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference portion of the USD women's basketball schedule is still in its infancy, but that fact does little to diminish the importance of tonight's matchup between the Toreros (13-0, 2-0) and St. Mary's (12-1, 2-0) at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

As predicted, the race for a conference championship is shaping up as a contest involving USD, St. Mary's, BYU (12-1, 2-0) and Gonzaga (11-3, 1-1) which has won nine consecutive WCC titles but lost to St. Mary's on Saturday and dropped out of the Associated Press Top-25 rankings.

The Toreros and St. Mary's have received votes in the AP and USA Today Coaches polls and it stands to reason that tonight's winner could break into the polls when fresh votes are announced Monday.
