Troy McClelland named co-PFL Defensive Player of the Week

(San Diego, Calif.) - USD senior captain Troy McClelland was named the co-Pioneer Football League defensive player of the week for his outstanding performance in the team's 40-29 victory over the Dayton Flyers. The Torero safety forced two Flyer turnovers that helped set up San Diego touchdowns. He forced a fumble that San Diego recovered at the Dayton 28-yard line and three plays later was converted into a go-ahead touchdown. In the fourth quarter McClelland intercepted a pass and returned it 27 yards to the Dayton 14, setting up San Diego's final score. He also had six tackles (four solo) in the contest. McClelland shared the honor with Marist LB Mike Kagafas.

For the season McClelland is tied for third on the team in tackles for the 6-1 Toreros. He owns 42 stops (22 solo) to go with 1 sack (-13 yards), 4 tackles for loss (-28 yards), 1 interception (27 yards), 1 quarterback hurry, 6 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles.

The Toreros play their final non-conference road game this Saturday, November 1st, in Des Moines, Iowa against the Drake Bulldogs. Drake is tied with USD at 4-1 in the PFL standings and owns an overall record of 5-3.
