SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-7) defeated fellow WCC contender Pacific (4-4) 4-1 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The Toreros dominated the Tigers in doubles play, coming up with convincing wins at the No. 3 and 2 spots. Idil Haciraifoglu and Mikayla Morkel-Brink picked up the first win of the day knocking off Tigers' Daria Labintseva and Gergana Boncheva 8-2. Senior captain Anna Depenau and Colomba DiFilippo quickly followed, defeating Pacific's Iveta Masarova and Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz 8-2 as well. Doubles duo Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic were leading 6-3 when the doubles point was clinched.
Depenau started the momentum for the Toreros, cruising past Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz 6-0, 6-1. DiFilippo, continued her impressive performance, defeating Christiana Ferrari 6-0, 6-3. Depenau and DiFilippo have both won their last five of seven matches. With a 3-0 lead, the Tigers got their first point of the day after Pacific's Francis Dean defeated Mikayla Morkel-Brink 6-3, 6-1. With three remaining matches on court, Stojanovic stayed strong getting the victory over Tigers' Hanna Ritterova 6-2, 6-3.
The Toreros return to action next Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. PT on their home courts against Cal State Fullterton.
