(San Diego, Calif.) - University of San Diego football seniors Steve Gargiulo (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Blake Oliaro (Folsom, Calif.) have been extended invitations to participate in NFL rookie minicamps this coming weekend. Gargiulo is heading east where he will try-out in the Washington Redskins rookie minicamp Friday thru Sunday. Oliaro is one of ten players that have been invited to the San Diego Chargers rookie mini-camp on a try-out basis this coming weekend. Both Torero defensive ends, who are expected to tryout at the linebacker position, will hope to perform well enough to land a free agent contract offer in the near future.

This past season Gargiulo (6'4", 255 lbs.) was named the team's Defensive Most Valuable Player and to the Pioneer Football League First Team for defense. Gargiulo anchored the defensive line unit that helped the Toreros hold six of their eleven opponents to 14 points or less. He finished the season with 46 tackles (23 solo), 12 tackles for loss (-57 yards), 8.5 quarterback sacks (-48 yards), 5 quarterback hurries and 2 forced fumbles.

Oliaro (6'5", 255 lbs.) was named the team's Most Outstanding Lineman for defense and was selected All-PFL Second Team. Oliaro finished the season with 39 tackles (29 solo), 12 tackles for loss (-61 yards), 7.5 quarterback sacks (-49 yards) and 6 quarterback hurries. During his sophomore campaign Oliaro was named an Associated Press FCS All-American, as well as the PFL Defender of the Year and Team Defensive MVP. Oliaro finished his Torero career with 30 career sacks (3rd all-time at USD).
