GAME #3: The USD Toreros (1-1; 0-1 PFL), under the direction of second year head coach Dale Lindsey, play host to the Princeton Tigers (0-0) this coming Saturday, September 20th. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium.
SERIES RECORD: This is just the third meeting between USD and Princeton with the Tigers owning a 2-0 record... The first meeting came in 2004 on September 25th as USD dropped a 24-17 decision at Torero Stadium... USD rallied from a 21-0 deficit to get back in the game... RB Evan Harney paced USD with 139 yards rushing. In 2005 USD lost 20-17 in a game played at Princeton on September 24th. For the game USD quarterback Josh Johnson completed 24-of-46 passes for 301 yards and 2 scores, but three interceptions (all by safety Jay McCareins) hurt the Toreros' cause.
USD VS. THE IVY LEAGUE: Saturday's contest will mark just the 11th time that USD has faced a team from the Ivy League... USD is 2-8 against Ivy League programs - Brown (0-1), Harvard (0-2), Princeton (0-2), Penn (0-1), Yale (2-2).

A LOOK AHEAD: The Toreros continue PFL play on the road at Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY) on Saturday, September 27th. Kickoff is slated for 10:00 a.m. (Pacific) at Teney Stadium (5,000 capacity). Jack Cronin will provide play-by-play action for USD.

Thru 2 games the Toreros are being paced by sophomore QB Keith Williams (23-52 for 340 yards and 3 TDs), redshirt sophomore RB Jonah Hodges (45 carries for 208 yards and 2 TDs), senior WR Brandon White (8 receptions for 177 yards and TDs), redshirt senior WR Reggie Bell (6 receptions for 90 yards and 1 TD), sophomore punter Ryan Belden (38.4 average), redshirt junior kicker David Last (2-2 in FGs, 9 points), redshirt senior LB Una Hamala (21 tackles), redshirt sophomore LB Nic Henson (19 tackles, 1 sack), redshirt senior SAF Troy McClelland (15 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble), and senior CB Toney Sawyer (12 stops, 1 pass breakup, 1 forced fumble)... Hodges ranks 2nd among PFL players with his 104.0 yards per game rushing average... With his 9-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter at Jacksonville, Brandon White has now had a touchdown reception in seven straight contests... White now has 143 career receptions (#7 all-time) for 1,842 yards (#10 all-time) and 24 touchdown receptions (#6 all-time)... As a team the Toreros are averaging 326.0 yards per game (156.0 rush, 170.0 pass) while giving up 439.0 yards per game (224.0 rush, 215.0 pass).... Among PFL schools, USD currently ranks first in red zone offense (5-5) and first in red zone defense (5-9).
TOREROS TEN YEAR RUN: Over the past 10 seasons (2004-2013) the Toreros have combined for an overall record of 81-30 (72.9 winning %)... Last year the Toreros won their final four games to finish 8-3 overall and with a perfect 5-0 mark at Torero Stadium... Including this season's win over Western New Mexico, USD's home record on Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium since the start of the 2004 campaign is 51-11 (82.2 winning %).
SCOUTING THE PRINCETON TIGERS: Princeton is making just its second trip to the state of California, with the first meeting coming against the Toreros on September 25, 2004 (24-17 Princeton win)... Princeton has dropped its last seven season openers, and 12 of its last 15... For the first time since 1992, Princeton is picked to finish first in the annual Ivy League preseason poll... Princeton is the reigning Ivy League champion and won its 10th Ivy League title by going 6-1 and sharing the crown with Harvard... Overall they finished 8-2 with the losses coming against #22 Lehigh (29-28) in the season opener, and at Dartmouth in their season finale (28-24)... In between was an 8-game winning streak that included five games of 50 or more points and a 51-48 overtime win at #23 Harvard... Head Coach Bob Surace enters his 5th season with Princeton - he was an All-Ivy League center and member of the 1989 Ivy League championship team... This season's squad will be directed by the return of senior QB Quinn Epperly, the 2013 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and a 2014 Walter Payton Award Watch List candidate... Last season he completed 208-306 passes for 2,137 yards and 25 touchdowns, and also led the Tiger ground attack with 570 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns... He'll have a trio of senior receivers to target in Matt Costello, Seth DeValve (2nd team All-Ivy) and Connor Kelley (All-Ivy honorable mention)... In 2013 the Tigers averaged 43.7 points per game while holding opponents to an average of 24.6 ppg... The defense is led by two-time First Team All-Ivy CB Anthony Gaffney.
