Oct. 17, 2015 MALIBU, Calif - The Toreros will start day four of the ITA Regional Championships in odd form Sunday as doubles pairs No. 17 Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek, and, Romain Kalaydjian and Joshua Page will face each other in the semifinals. Due to the USD showdown the Toreros are guaranteed a spot in the finals.
In today's action Angus and Vittek edged out Gabriel Sindney and Guiherme Ristow Hadlich of Pepperdine on their home court 8-7(1). Meanwhile Kalaydjian and Page moved past San Diego States Marko Goles Babic and Milen Ianakiev 8-7(4). Tomorrow the four teammates will face off at 10:00 a.m. in the semifinals.
In singles play, Angus beat Arizona's No. 37 Naoki Takeda 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals where he met No. 112 Hendrik Jebens. The senior defeated the SDSU junior 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on his way to the semifinals. Tomorrow he will face USC's Logan Smith.
Kalaydjian fell in his round of 16 match by a score of 6-1, 6-1 to USC's No. 42 Nicholas Crystal. Crystal and UCLA's Martin Redliki will play each other in the semifinal opposite of Angus.
Vittek (No. 47) made a nice run in the consolation bracket, picking up wins over Raul DeLaTorre of SDSU and Gregoire Balenci of Grand Canyon University on Saturday. Balenci defeated James Ponwith before suffering his 6-0, 6-3 loss to Vittek. Page withdrew from his match due to injury.
