ITA Draw Day 1 
San Diego, Calif. -- After the first day of play in the ITA Southwest Regionals, numerous Toreros are advancing to the next round.
Sophomore, Gemma Garcia won her first match 6-0, 6-3 against a player from Grand Canyon University. After a tough 3 set battle, Garcia fell to Sydney Van Alphen from USC with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Carolin Nonnenmacher and Daniela Morales had a first round bye, advancing them to the second round. Nonnenmacher easily secured a win in the second round with a score of 6-0, 6-1. She'll play Terry Fleming from UCLA tomorrow, Oct. 20th, who is seeded 8th in the Regionals. Morales also pulled out a 2 set win against Long Beach State with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Morales will take on Kelley Anderson from ASU who is seeded 6th in the competition.
Junior, Sophia Chow fell to Becca Weissmann from USC with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Maria Torres continued to the second round where she played a strong match, pulling out a win with a score of 6-4; 3-6; 6-3 against her SDSU opponent. She will compete against Avan Broomfield from UCLA tomorrow morning in the third round.
In doubles play, 2 teams immediately advanced to the second round after having a first round bye while the other 2 won their sets to continue on.
Columba DiFilippo and Gemma Garcia will play a team from Long Beach State in the second round. Additionally, Sophia Chow and Maria Torres will compete against a duo from UCLA who is seeded 8th.
Carolin Nonnenmacher and Nicole Anderson won their first match against UC Irvine with a score of 8-4. They'll take on a pair from UC Riverside tomorrow morning.
Kati Kukaras and Daniea Morales also won their set against Grand Canyon University with a score of 8-5. They'll play a Fullerton duo tomorrow morning.
