SAN DIEGO - The women's tennis team competed in the final day of competition at the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic, with one doubles team and two singles teams winning the championship title.
Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonnenmacher claimed a championship win against a duo from Utah with a 6-3 set score. Another doubles team from San Diego made it to the final round of play, but ultimately lost versus their SDSU opponents. With Torres and Chow losing their match on Saturday morning, they played in a consolation round against a pair from Air Force and eventually fell 6-3.
The winning Torero duo from doubles play, each took home another win in their singles matches. Nonnenmacher took on a cross-city rival from SDSU in the final round and ended up with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Garcia battled a woman from Colorado and kept things interesting before winning 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Kati Kukaras also made it to the championship round where she fell against her SDSU opponent 7-5, 6-2.
Two women from USD who were eliminated from championship contention competed in the consolation rounds. Sophia Chow beat out her opponent 6-3, 6-3. Daniela Morales had a different outcome against a woman from SDSU, losing 6-1, 6-4.
The Toreros will take some well-deserved time off before they begin spring play in January.
