Tempe, AZ â€" The women's tennis team finished up a busy weekend of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Arizona State University. The Toreros went up against a very strong field over the weekend and turned in some very competitive matches. In final action today Maria-Paula Torres earned a solid singles victory over Andrea Ballinger of Oklahoma State, 7-5, 6-2.
USD's doubles teams of Kati Kukaras / Nicole Anderson and Colomba DiFilippo / Carolin Nonnenmacher both dropped 6-4 decisions in their respective matches.
Nonnenmacher lost her extra singles match to NAU's Hanneke Lodewijks, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Kukaras dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Oklahoma's Camila Romero, 6-3, 6-1. Sophia Chow was beaten by Cal's Jasie Dunk, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
The Toreros will close out their fall schedule this coming weekend when they compete in the San Diego State Invitational II over November 10-12.
