Junior wide receiver adds to list of All-America accolades

SAN DIEGO – Michael Bandy became the first San Diego player in program history to be named a Division-I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association All-American, as announced by the organization Thursday.

Bandy was selected as the nation's top wide-receiver and is one of 11 players nationally to earn FCS ADA All-America honors. He is the first Torero to be recognized by the organization and one of three players from the Pioneer Football League all-time.

Bandy continues to add to his growing list of accolades that include being named to the Associated Press FCS All-America first team, the STATS FCS All-America first team and the Walter Camp FCS All-America Team.

Bandy is one of six players nationally to earn first team honors on each of those All-America teams.

He set the FCS record for average yards per catch (minimum 10 receptions) at 32.4 during victory against Davidson.

Bandy finished the season with 1,698 receiving yards – the 5th most in a single season in FCS history – and his average of 141.5 receiving yards per game is 10th-best all-time.

Bandy was a unanimous first-team All-PFL Offense selection. He set the USD record in receiving yards in a season (1,698), was second in receptions (88) and third in receiving touchdowns (14). He also set the USD record for receiving yards in a single game (324) in victory against Davidson, which is eighth most in FCS history.

The sixth annual award recognizes the top student-athletes from FCS institutions at 11 different positions. The 2018 class includes student-athletes from 10 different institutions, representing eight different conferences. Voting was conducted by a national panel, consisting of media and sports information directors.

From the 11 All-America Team honorees, an Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will be announced prior to the FCS National Championship Game on January 5, 2019. The Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year recipients will be recognized at the FCS national championship contest in Frisco, Texas, during an on-field presentation.
