SAN DIEGO – JoJo Binda, Jr., who rushed for a career-high 227 yards, and
Brandon Eickert, who was a perfect 3-for-3 in field goals, were named PFL Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 11, the league office announced.
Binda, Jr. became the first 200-yard rusher of the season for the Toreros after he gained 225 of his 227 total yards in the second half of a 51-7 win at Stetson. The product of Providence, Rhode Island averaged 17.5 yards per carry, which is the highest of any PFL running back this season. His 227 yard output, meanwhile, was the most by a USD back since 2014 when Jonah Hodges ran for 273 also against Stetson. Binda, Jr. is the first USD running back to earn the league's weekly honor since Hodges did so in October 2016.
Behind the efforts of Binda, Jr., the Toreros accumulated 353 yards on the ground, their most in a game since 2011 and second 300-yard game of the year.
Eickert was perfect in the kicking game at Stetson as he was an unblemished 6-for-6 in extra points in addition to the three field goals. The trio of field goals came in the first half to help the Toreros establish a 16-0 lead at halftime. He is the first USD kicker to earn the weekly award from the PFL since 2014 (David Last).
The honors are the first of the careers of the redshirt senior Binda, Jr. and freshman Eickert. It is the sixth week and seventh and eighth time this season a Torero earned PFL player of the week awards.
Binda, Jr. was also named the PFL Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Sunday.
The Toreros, on a seven-game overall winning streak and 35-game conference winning streak, will play their final regular season game at home on Saturday against Morehead State (2 p.m.). With a win, USD will clinch a share of the PFL championship, their sixth straight, and secure a bid into the FCS Playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
