Silveyra and Bjerk Earn Preseason Honors

Sara Silveyra and Sophia Bjerk have been named Preseason All-WCC

SAN DIEGO - Sara Silveyra and Sophia Bjerk were named to the Preseason All-WCC Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
 
In a vote by the conference's head coaches, San Diego was selected to finish third overall for the second consecutive year. BYU was picked to finish first, followed by LMU in second who received 21 votes, including one first place nod.
 
Silveyra is one of four seniors returning for the 2020 season after earning All-WCC first team honors last year. The shortstop started all 49 contests for the Toreros in 2019 and led the team in batting average (.348), RBIs (29), doubles (17), home runs (3), and slugging percentage (.551).
 
Sophomore Bjerk also joins Silveyra as one of San Diego's best returners. The third basemen garnered All-WCC second team honors in 2019 after earning 42 starts her freshman season. Bjerk slugged 20 RBIs and 6 doubles on the year and batted .306 on the season.
 
The Toreros will begin the 2020 campaign on February 7 in Los Angeles at the Stacey Winsberg Memorial Tournament.
