SAN DIEGO—San Diego will play a six-game schedule in the spring of 2021, as announced Thursday by the Pioneer Football League.
 
USD's six-week schedule will include three home games and three road games, spanning from March 13 to April 17.
 
"We are happy to know who we will be playing in the spring," said head coach Dale Lindsey. "We look forward to getting back to work."
 
The Toreros will open the season at Presbyterian College—newcomer to the PFL in 2021—on March 13 in Clinton, S.C. USD will also travel to Marist on March 27 and to Valparaiso on April 10.
 
San Diego will play host to Butler in its home opener on March 20 in Torero Stadium. The Toreros will face Davidson on April 3 and celebrate their seniors prior to their April 17 matchup with Stetson to conclude the regular season.
 
In November, the PFL Presidents Council endorsed a six-game conference season in the spring of 2021, as advanced by the PFL athletic directors and coaches. The Council determined to move forward with a plan that provides a meaningful competitive experience for PFL football student-athletes.
 
The Toreros have won 37 straight PFL games, the second-longest conference winning streak in FCS history. They are two games away from tying the record and seven games from matching the longest such streak in Division I (FBS and FCS).
 
In September, the NCAA Board of Directors approved plans for NCAA Division I fall championships to be played in the spring as outlined by the Division I Council. The Division I Football Championship will feature 16 teams, with the bracket announced Sunday, April 18, and the championship game to be played May 14, 15, or 16 in Frisco, Texas. The spring 2021 field includes automatic bids from 11 FCS conferences, including the PFL, and five at-large selections.
 
USD enters the new decade as one of the winningest programs at the FCS level in the 2010s. The Toreros had the third-best winning percentage among FCS schools in the last 10 years, reached the FCS playoffs five times, and claimed the only two postseason wins by a non-scholarship program.
 
The Toreros have also won six consecutive PFL championships and eight of the last nine.
