SAN DIEGO – After a stellar performance in his first and only year starting at San Diego, quarterback Reid Sinnett signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, the organization announced.
 
Sinnett is the first Torero to sign a free agent contract coming out of NFL Draft weekend since 2018 when his former teammate and current San Francisco 49er Ross Dwelley joined the league as an undrafted player. He is also the first USD quarterback to join an NFL team since Josh Johnson was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2008 draft.
 
A 6-4, 225-pound redshirt senior from Johnston, Iowa, Sinnett had one of the best seasons by a quarterback in program history in 2019, as he finished second in the USD record books in passing yards (3,528); fourth in completions (252) and total offense (3,702); sixth in completion percentage (66.9%) and passing efficiency (168.8); and ninth in passing touchdowns (32). He also helped lead the team to its sixth-straight PFL championship and fourth trip in a row to the FCS Playoffs.
 
Nationally, Sinnett finished the regular season second in passing efficiency and top-five in passing touchdowns, passing yards per game, and total offense.
 
Sinnett, who was a candidate for the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award and an All-PFL selection, earned a spot in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl this past January and was named a starter and team captain of the showcase game.
 
In addition to his accolades on the field, Sinnett had a well-rounded resume as a scholar-athlete as he was named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society and earned Academic All-PFL honors. The finance major graduated from USD in December 2019.
 
Sinnett will look to join Dwelley and Jamal Agnew (Detroit Lions) as Toreros on an active NFL roster for the 2020 season.
