SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's tennis 2020 recruiting class has been ranked No. 14 in the nation according to TennisRecruiting.net. Consisting of Abigail Desiatnikov, Jordyn McBride, and Elisabeth Andryukhova, the class is the highest ranked and strongest in program history.
Abigail Desiatnikov from Las Vegas, Nev. is the first Blue Chip recruit for the Toreros. She boasts a No. 2 ranking in Nevada, is ranked No. 29 nationally, and is one of only 26 women in the nation to receive Blue Chip status this year. On the world circuit, she has an ITF juniors career-high of No. 91 and in WTA play, she has a singles career-high of No. 903. Her overall record against rated opponents is 22-8, going 7-3 against 5-star players.
A California native from Valencia, Jordyn McBride is a five star recruit who has ties to Torero tennis.Recently, McBride won Athlete of the Year for West Ranch High School, Her mother, Dina Birch-Mcbride, graduated from USD in 1995 and played for Coach Stephens during her time in San Diego. Jordyn is ranked No. 8 in California, No. 35 in the nation, and within a three year period, she rose 150 spots nationally.
An international student from Darmstadt, Germany, Elisabeth Andryukhova joins the Toreros ranked No. 1 in Tennisverband-Mittelrhein, No. 99 in the Open Women German rankings, and boasts an 11.41 UTR. In redirecting her life ambition to play professional tennis, Lisa has chosen to pursue academics along with an elite tennis program.
"USD women's tennis is definitely on the rise as testified by these three amazing recruits. I believe the addition of these student-athletes to the already powerful program will take us to another level," said Coach Stephens
The Tennis Recruiting Network and Mizuno compile their recruiting class rankings with the help of junior tennis experts, which include reporters, national and international tournament directors, referees, ranking chairmen, and writers from across the country. A panel from this group votes on the annual rankings.
Desiatnikov, McBride, and Andryukhova will join a nationally ranked team of at least five returners for the Toreros.
