SAN DIEGO – Defensive tackle Will Buck of the San Diego football team has been named the Pioneer Football League (PFL) Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday. Buck registered three sacks in the win over Valparaiso.
 
The redshirt sophomore led a San Diego defense that held Valparaiso to 57 yards in a come-from-behind 21-14 victory. It was the fewest yards allowed in the PFL this season and third fewest in the FCS this season.
 
Buck had a big hand in that effort, with 3.5 tackles for loss (and a tackle for no gain), three sacks, and two quarterback hurries in his six-tackle (three solo) outing. After Valparaiso gained 49 yards on its opening drive, San Diego held the Beacons to eight yards the rest of the game.
 
The Toreros return to action next Saturday when they host Morehead State at 1:00 PM.
