SAN DIEGO—Marcellus Earlington, a 6-6 junior from St. John's, will transfer to San Diego for the 2021-22 season, head coach
Sam Scholl announced.
Â
A guard/forward from Stony Point, New York, Earlington was one of three Johnnies to appear in all 27 games during the 2020-21 season.
Â
"Marcellus impacts winning," said Scholl. "His versatility on both sides of the ball brings great value to winning on a daily basis. Marcellus has a huge heart and he consistently pours love, care, and enthusiasm into his teammates' success."
Â
At St. John's, Earlington averaged 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per contest as a junior, scoring double figures eight times. He scored a season-high 16 points against both Rider and Xavier and added a season-high nine boards against the Musketeers.
Â
Earlington shot 42 percent from the field and 40 percent (27-of-67) from three-point range last season, closing out the season with a combined 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in two games against Seton Hall.
Â
A graduate of Don Bosco Prep, Earlington was a two-time all-state selection, helping the team to a combined 58-5 during his junior and senior seasons. He led the Ironmen to a pair of NJSIAA Non-Public A Championships and consecutive appearances in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions Title Game, scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds in the title game his senior year.
Â
In his senior season, Earlington averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading the Ironmen to a 28-3 overall record and a top-five ranking in the state of New Jersey.
Â
Earlington joins transfers Bryce Monroe and Jase Townsend who also signed with the Toreros earlier this month.
