SAN DIEGO—The Pioneer Football League recognized 58 scholar-athletes from San Diego's football program on the Spring 2021 PFL Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced.
 
It is the fourth straight year USD has had 50+ scholar-athletes earn honor roll distinction and it is the second time in PFL history the league has named more than 600 scholar-athletes to the list with a record-breaking 634 members.
 
The 58 honorees set a new program record for the Toreros, with 32 scholar-athletes earning the distinction for the first time, including 20 true freshmen.
 
Redshirt senior Chris Reese (Electrical Engineering) has been named to the PFL Honor Roll in all five seasons as a Torero. Bennett Dondoyano (Finance/Marketing), Bryce Fledderman (Engineering), Michael Gadinis (Real Estate/Finance) and Kama Kamaka (Accountancy/Finance) were all recognized for the fourth consecutive season.
 
In addition, 14 Toreros picked up the accolades for the second time and seven were named to the list for the third time in their careers.
 
The PFL athletic directors and coaches established the honor roll in 2001 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes.
 
To date the league has recognized more than 8,300 student athletes on the PFL Academic Honor Roll. It consists of student athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the semester of competition and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled full-time in accordance with NCAA rules.
 
Since the award's inception, USD has received 864 PFL Honor Roll awards, fifth-most in the league.
