Eric Williams Jr. Named WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SAN DIEGO - Eric Williams Jr. of the University of San Diego men's basketball team has been named West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Williams Jr. set a San Diego program record when he scored 43 points against Utah State last Thursday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. This is San Diego's first Player of the Week honor since January 29, 2018 (Isaiah Pineiro).

The previous record of 40 points by Robert "Pinky" Smith stood atop the Torero single-game scoring list since 1972. En route to his record-breaking performance, Williams connected on 13 of his 20 field-goal attempts, including 7-of-8 from three-point distance, and was 10-of-13 from the charity stripe, while pulling down 13 rebounds.

One of the senior's seven treys came with 2.8 seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. He notched the second-highest scoring performance in Division I this season (James Bishop, George Washington – 44).
