Women’s Soccer Adds Sam Gerhart as Graduate Transfer

SAN DIEGO – Head Coach Louise Lieberman and the San Diego women's soccer program have announced the addition of 2020-21 Big South Offensive Player of the Year Sam Gerhart as a graduate transfer from High Point.

Gerhart is set to join the program in the fall to compete during the 2023 season.

"We are very excited to add Sam to the roster," said Lieberman. "Along with being a natural goal scorer, she also brings a relentless assertiveness and determination on the field. Her experience will help add to the incredible group we currently have".

A three-time All-Big South honoree, Gerhart made waves in her four-year career at High Point, scoring 21 goals and 11 assists for 53 points in 50 games. In addition to her Offensive Player of the Year honor, she was also named the Big South Freshman of the Year in 2019 and selected as a United Soccer Coaches first team All-Southeast Region honoree during the 2020-21 season.

This past season, Gerhart was a second team All-Big South honoree, tallying six goals and three assists for a team-leading 15 points. Gerhart started 16 of 17 games, recording nine points in her final six games.

A native of Lebanon, Pa., Gerhart is a four-time Big South Offensive Player of the Week and two-time Big South Freshman of the week. While at High Point, Gerhart helped the Panthers reach the NCAA Tournament in 2021, after winning the Big South title. Gerhart is also a strong student, having been named to the Big South All-Academic Team in in 2020-21.

This season marks the second straight addition of a graduate transfer from the Keystone State, after adding Adalee Broadbent last season from Maryland.
