SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (17-13, 11-7 WCC) has been selected to compete in the 2023 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), and will host the opening round on the event, on Thursday, Mar. 16 at 6 p.m.
The Toreros will welcome Long Beach State (23-9, 17-3 Big West) to the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego is 10-6 all-time against Long Beach, in an all-time series that features a 2015 WNIT first round victory for the Toreros.
The two teams last met on Dec. 6, 2018, when San Diego earned a 60-56 victory in Long Beach. Current Toreros
Myah Pace and
Kiera Oakry both saw in action in that game, with Pace tallying 13 points.
Should the Toreros advance, they would play the winner of San Diego State (23-10, 12-6 MWC) and UC Irvine (24-6, 16-2 Big West) in a to-be-determined location. The Toreros are one of three WCC teams in this season's WNIT, joined by BYU and San Francisco.
The Toreros will compete in the WNIT for the second consecutive season and for the eighth time under head coach
Cindy Fisher. The selection is the ninth postseason appearance under Fisher and the 11th in program history.
Tickets are available for $10 general admission and $20 for sideline courtside seating. All USD students and staff can get in free using their campus ID.
