SAN DIEGO – San Diego men's tennis freshman
Oliver Tarvet has capped off a historic freshman season, by being named the ITA Southwest Region Rookie of the Year, as the ITA announced on Tuesday.
Â
Tarvet becomes the second player in program history to ever earn the honor and the first since
Uros Petronijevic in 2013.
Â
A native of St. Albans, England, Tarvet caps off a tremendous first season as a Torero after being named the WCC Freshman of the Year, tabbed to the All-WCC First Team in singles and named All-WCC Honorable Mention in doubles with
Stian Klaassen.
Â
Tarvet went 19-8 overall in singles matches this season to lead the Toreros in wins, including 14-6 in dual matches. The freshman primarily played the second singles position, where he thrived and would go on to earn WCC Singles Player of the Week honors on three occasions. Tarvet also finished the season with a 13-11 record in doubles.
Â
With Tarvet's honor, the Toreros have gone back-to-back seasons with an ITA end-of-year award winner, after
August Holmgren was selected as the ITA Southwest Region Senior Player of the Year in 2022.
