ST. LOUIS, Mo. — All-PFL First Team honors for
Ja'seem Reed,
Eric Haney, and
Giovanni Iovino headlined a slate of eight total end-of-year honors for San Diego, the Pioneer Football League announced on November 24, 2024.
Behind the trio of First Team honors, USD's
Grant Sergent,
Evans Bowling,
Malachi Cooper,
Ruben Lopez, and
Aidan Lehman each earned All-PFL Second Team honors.
After being named an honorable mention in 2023,
Reed earned his first All-PFL First Team honor (and was one of three unanimous selections) after a phenomenal season out wide for the Toreros, where he racked up 1,052 receiving yards (making him the PFL's only 1000-yard receiver in 2024), 12 touchdown receptions, 7.0 receptions per game, and an average of 95.6 receiving yards per game. His 12 touchdown receptions were good for the fourth-most in all of FCS football in 2024.
Haney recorded 63 total tackles, including four tackles for loss in 2024, to earn his second consecutive All-PFL First Team honor. Opposing quarterbacks threw towards Haney a total of 10 times, of which two attempts ended in interceptions, including a 46-yard pick-six against Marist on October 19. He led a fierce Torero defense that was the league's top unit in pass efficiency defense (104.05) and ranked second in the FCS with six defensive touchdowns.
Iovino joined San Diego as a transfer from Washington State ahead of the 2023 season and quickly established himself as one of the PFL's most fearsome defensive players, racking up a team-high 75 tackles (46 solo, 10 TFL) while leading the Toreros with three forced fumbles.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native also earned a pair of sacks for seven total yards.
Sergent turned in a highly productive season under center, leading the San Diego offense across all 11 of the Toreros' games in 2024. He paced the league in passing touchdowns with 26 (eight more than the next-closest PFL player), ranked second in total passing yards with 2,403, and finished fourth in the league with 192 total completions.
The Salinas, California native is a two-time PFL Academic Honor Roll member, and earned his first All-PFL recognition this season.
Bowling earned himself his first All-PFL Second Team recognition after the veteran right tackle solidified himself as a significant leader of the offensive line and the offensive unit as a whole, appearing in all eleven games for USD.
Cooper earned his second consecutive season of All-PFL Second Team recognition with another productive campaign on the defensive line for the Toreros, totaling a tied-for-team-high 4.5 sacks (four solo) and 36 total tackles, including nine tackles for losses totaling 25 yards, to go with one quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery.
The San Diego native was named to the All-PFL Second Team in 2023 before earning his second PFL honor in 2024.
Lopez captured his first career All-PFL Second Team honor after putting together a well-rounded junior season, recording three total interceptions for the Toreros, one forced fumble, two pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries, one of which was an 87-yard game winning scoop-and-score against Presbyterian on October 5.
The Mission Viejo, California native totaled 34 total tackles for his team, four of which were tackles for losses, and one sack for eight yards.
Lehman earned his first All-PFL Second Team honor with an exceptional season for USD on special teams, knocking down 16 of his 21 total field goals attempts, including going 2-for-2 from 50 yards or more. As the kick-off specialist, he recorded 65 total kickoffs, with 30 going into or beyond the endzone for touchbacks.
