Four Toreros Earn 2024 All-PFL Academic Recognition

Eric Haney, Logan Gingg, Giovanni Iovino, and Aidan Lehman named to All-PFL academic teams

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Six Toreros earned 2024 Academic All-PFL Honors, the Pioneer Football League announced on Wednesday.

Eric Haney took home an Academic All-PFL First Team honor, while his teammates Logan Gingg, Giovanni Iovino, and Aidan Lehman each received Academic All-PFL Second Team recognition.

Haney, a defensive back majoring in Mechanical Engineering (3.58 GPA), earned himself the PFL Defensive Player of the Year award and was also named to the All-PFL First Team. He was a key figure on the Torero defense, recording 63 total tackles (four TFL), eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and a sack.

He has now earned his first Academic All-PFL First Team honors after gathering back-to-back All-Academic Second Team honors his junior and senior years.

Gingg, a senior running back majoring in Business Administration (3.43 GPA), became a consistent threat in the backfield for the Toreros in his senior season, rushing for 502 total yards and five touchdowns, including a three game stretch where he recorded three straight 100 yard plus games.

This year's Academic All-PFL Second Team selection is his first after earning a PFL All-Academic Honor Roll selection in his freshman season. He was named a 2024 All-PFL Honorable Mention on Monday.

Iovino, a Senior linebacker majoring in Real Estate (3.42 GPA), joined San Diego as a transfer from Washington State ahead of the 2023 season and quickly established himself as one of the PFL's most fearsome defensive players, racking up a team-high 75 tackles (46 solo, 10 TFL) while leading the Toreros with three forced fumbles.

This year's Academic All-PFL Second Team selection is his first. He joined Haney on the 2024 All-PFL First Team on Monday.

Lehman, a Senior kicker majoring in Engineering (3.34 GPA), also earned his first All-PFL Second Team nomination honor with an exceptional season for USD on special teams, knocking down 16 of his 21 total field goals attempts, including going 2-for-2 from 50 yards or more. As the kick-off specialist, he recorded 65 total kickoffs, with 30 going into or beyond the endzone for touchbacks.

This year's Academic All-PFL Second Team selection is his first after earning a PFL All-Academic Honor Roll selection (2021, 2022) on two occasions. He was named to the 2024 All-PFL Second Team on Monday.
