Track & Field Kicks Off Their Season at Point Loma

POINT LOMA, CA - The USD track team began their outdoor 2024 campaign at Point Loma at the Ross & Sherwin invitational. The objective of the opener was for athletes to improve their opening marks from last year. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1500m Women
The Women's races began with the first heat. Junior Morgan Robinson finished 10th at 4:56.27, a personal best for the event. She was followed by a victory in the 2nd heat by new transfer Sophomore Camryn Kozak, who also set a personal best with a time of 5:05.25. Sophomore Lizzie McVey came in 2nd place in the same heat with a personal best time of 5:06.81. In the 3rd heat of the 1500m race, Nathalie Green's victory placed her in 5:10.09, another personal best time for the Toreros. 

800m Women
In the fastest heat of the day, Aryam James placed 4th, setting a personal best time of 2:17.15. In the second heat, the lady Toreros got an 8th-place finish by Freshman Lilly Dow, who had a solid personal best and opener of 2:22.87. The 3rd heat of the women's heat also brought out a gritty near win by Senior Maddie Holt with a personal best time of 2:24.27. Allie Lafferty finished right behind Maddie Holt in 4th place with a personal best of 2:26.11. 

5000m Women
The 5,000m women's first heat brought an excitement as it was the near closing act of the meet. Daniella Hubble did not disappoint, as she placed 3rd as she broke the magical 18 minute barrier. She also set a personal best time of 17:58.33. Gianna Sbarbaro, and Aryam Jaimes worked so well together as they both pushed towards great opening times of 18:14.90 and 18:15.57. Aryam set a new personal best as she continues her historical personal best streak at Point Loma. Senior, Mia Marsh set her best opening mark in all of her seasons with a 15th place finish and a time of 18:56.90. She was followed by two personal best times from Freshmen Allison Kirby, 19:24.87 and a personal best set by Senior Zoey Delgado of 19:26.94. Maddi Holt also closed her double for the day with a personal best mark of 20:42.80. 

The Lady Toreros are now set to race this upcoming Friday at San Diego State. Look forward to both the race and also the racing preview.
