Andi Xu Advances to NCAA National Championship

Rancho Santa Fe native finishes tied for second at The Farms, will play for national title as individual next week

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — Local talent Andi Xu put together a remarkable three-round performance to finish tied for second out of 75 participants at the 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Rancho Santa Fe Regional on Wednesday afternoon, carding rounds of 71, 67, and 68 at The Farms Golf Club for a total of 206 strokes that had him four under par.

The second-place finish earned Xu — a native of Rancho Santa Fe — a spot as an individual in the NCAA National Championship at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in nearby Carlsbad, California, which will take place from Friday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 29.

Xu helped San Diego finish seventh out of 14 teams in the event, seven shots off the pace of fifth-place North Florida, which secured the final berth to next week's national championship. As a whole USD totaled 857 strokes, going 17 over par after combined rounds of 285, 284, and 288 strokes.

Craig Ronne was next among USD's players, placing tied for 13th with a +3 213 (71, 71, 71).

Ronne was followed by Carson Enright, who ended the tournament at +11 and T-42 with rounds of 72, 74, and 75 (221).

Ryan Abuan was next at T-50, finishing 13 over par with rounds of 73, 72, and 78 (223).

Kelvin Si rounded out the Toreros' results at T-63 after carding a +19 229 (71, 84, 74).

For San Diego, the 2023-2024 campaign marked the fourth consecutive year in which it earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. USD secured an automatic bid to the postseason when it clinched its first WCC Championship since 2008 by winning at Gold Mountain Golf Club from April 26-28.

San Diego got stronger as its schedule progressed, winning the Lamkin Invitational (March 4-5) at its home course (San Diego Country Club) and placing second at both the Pauma Valley Invitational (March 18-19) and the El Macero Classic (April 12-14) before taking home the conference title in Bremerton, Washington.

USD's successful season was punctuated by a WCC Men's Golf Coach of the Year honor for Chris Riley and All-WCC First Team selections for Craig Ronne, who won the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club in March and Xu, who notched four Top-10 finishes this season.

Riley was the first Torero golf coach to take home the award since Tim Mickleson in 2011.
