Women’s Basketball Adds Ava Ranson as Transfer

SAN DIEGO – Head coach Cindy Fisher and the San Diego women's basketball program have officially locked in another new Torero, signing guard Ava Ranson as a transfer for the 2024-25 season.

"We are so excited to add Ava to the Torero family," said Fisher. "Ava is an extraordinary athlete with great size and versatility. She can play a variety of positions for us which will make her invaluable on both ends of the court and she is coming off a remarkable season and will bring that championship mindset and leadership to our team."

Ranson joins the Toreros after spending last season at Cal State San Marcos, where she played in all 34 games of the Cougars run to the final four of the Division II NCAA Tournament. Ranson averaged 7.6 points per game, while adding 1.7 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game and shooting 34 percent from three-point range. Ranson played some of her best basketball down the stretch, including a 23-point season-high in the second round of the NCAA Tournament win over Western Washington.

Prior to her time at Cal State San Marcos, Ranson played three seasons at Montana State. The Boise, Idaho native played in 54 games for the Bobcats, tallying 121 points. Ranson played a key role in helping the Bobcats reach the NCAA Tournament in 2022 as she scored a season-high in the championship game against Northern Arizona to propel Montana State to a Big Sky championship. In addition, Ranson was named to the Big Sky's All-Academic Team in 2021.

Ranson has several connections to the Toreros, as she rejoins her teammate Truitt Reilly, who also comes to San Diego via Cal State San Marcos. In addition, Ranson played high school basketball alongside current guard Lauren McCall at Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho, where she was Timberline's female Athlete of the Year, the Idaho Press Tribune Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Idaho Press Tribune Girls Overall Athlete of the Year, and a McDonald's All-American finalist.

Ranson joins fellow Cal State San Marcos transfer Reilly, as well incoming freshmen Lilly Amor, Erica Carr, Dresha Moore and Eva Ruse and transfer Paris Santacaterina as new Toreros for the 2024-25 season.
