SAN DIEGO — University of San Diego Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Dr. Magdi El Shahawy as its Associate Athletic Director for Academics. Dr. El Shahawy brings more than 30 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, including leadership roles at the University of Georgia, the University of Southern California, Michigan State, and Florida State.

In his role, Dr. El Shahawy will oversee all aspects of academic support for student-athletes, including tutoring, NCAA certification, and athletic advising. He will also serve as a member of USD's Senior Staff, contributing to the department's overall strategy and operations.

"Magdi's leadership and expertise in this field are unparalleled," said Jessica Goerke, USD Athletics' Deputy Athletic Director, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Woman Administrator. "I had the privilege of working alongside him on the NCAA's Committee on Academics, where I witnessed his unwavering commitment to supporting student-athletes. I am excited to see how his vision and dedication will enhance the experience for our Torero students, staff, and coaches."

Dr. El Shahawy's first day at USD will be Thursday, January 23.
