USD Athletics Posts Strong Graduation Success Rate

Department records 94% GSR in most recent reporting period, seven Torero teams achieve perfect score

SAN DIEGO — USD Athletics' high academic achievement has continued this winter with the annual release of the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate (GSR).

The Toreros posted a strong 94% GSR in the most recent reporting period, representing the department's third-highest mark ever. Seven USD programs attained a perfect score.

San Diego volleyball, men's and women's tennis, women's cross country/track, softball, and women's basketball all had 100 GSRs, while men's golf, men's basketball, and women's rowing all posted a mark of 90 or higher.

"The Graduation Success Rate is an important barometer of our academic success, and our strong performance in this year's report is indicative of our student-athletes' hard work in the classroom, as well as the dedication of our incredible support staff," said Jessica Goerke, USD Deputy Athletic Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Woman Administrator. "High marks in the GSR mean that we are succeeding in our ultimate goal, which is to help our student-athletes graduate with distinction as they move forward into their next chapter of life — whether that be in professional sports, the working world, or beyond."

The Graduation Success Rate is a metric designed by the NCAA in 2002 to track graduation rates for student-athletes. It was introduced in 2002 to provide a more accurate measure of student-athlete academic outcomes by including transfers in and removing those students who leave their institution academically eligible. The national average across all Division I student-athletes was 90%.
