Amanda Anders Wins Second WCC OPOTW after Second Brace

The freshman forward leads the conference with four goals in four games

SAN DIEGO – USD women's soccer freshman forward Amanda Anders earned her second WCC Offensive Player of the Week of the season on Monday afternoon following another two-goel performance off the bench in Las Toreras' 6-0 thumping of UC Riverside on Sunday, Sept. 7.

With the two second-half goals off the bench Sunday against the Highlanders, the San Marcos, Calif. native moved out to the conference lead with four goals in four games, two less games than the five next best goalscorers in the league. Anders also collected the honor in the first week of the season – becoming the first Torero to ever win the award since it split into offensive and defensive categories in 2019 – following a brace in her collegiate debut on Aug. 14.

Anders' brace came in a span of 10 minutes, scoring the first and second goals of a five goal half for the Toreros. The first was blasted in over the keeper's shoulder from close range after brilliant, quick build up play from the Toreros. The second saw Anders collect the ball outside the top of the box, take a couple touches inside, then rocketed into the top right corner from 18 yards out. Those were two of her three shots on the afternoon, moving her season shooting percentage to an impressive 44.4% (4-for-9 shooting).

Las Toreras soccer is in Anders' blood as her mother, Sherice (Bartling) Anders was a standout at USD befoer going on to play professionally in the U.S. top flight for the Boston Breakers. The Toreros are unbeaten in their first five games for the first time in 22 years, the six goal showing being the first since 2008.
