SAN DIEGO – San Diego Women's Basketball will host its annual Play4Kay game on Saturday, February 7th at 2 PM when the Toreros take on Seattle University. While Play4Kay games happen at schools across the nation each year, this one carries special significance for USD head coach
Blanche Alverson.
Alverson's mother, Cindy, was diagnosed with triple negative stage two breast cancer. For Coach Alverson, who describes her mother as one of her closest friends and mentors, the diagnosis brought the reality of cancer's impact into sharp focus.
"My mom is one of my closest friends and mentors," Alverson said of her mother. "It really puts things in perspective that sometimes your hard days don't even come close to what someone else might be going through."
Play4Kay was created to raise funds and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting ways of fighting all cancers affecting women. The fund provides strength, courage, and hope to those affected by cancer.
