Biography

Junior in 2004: Earned a spot on the Toreros[apos] everyday roster in late April and made three starts in May... Drove in three runs in 11 at-bats... Appeared in a total of 12 games... Registered his first hit for USD against Gonzaga (5-8-04).

Prep/College: Comes to USD from San Diego[apos]s Mesa CC and St. Augustine High School... Was twice named a First Team All-Pacific Coast League outfielder at Mesa... Hit .390 overall and .455 in league play as a junior college freshman... Invited to play in the junior college all-star game after batting .350 as a collegiate sophomore.

Personal: Born on February 11, 1983 in San Diego, California... Son of Tom and Pam Merritt... Also recruited by UC Riverside, UCSD, Sonoma State and Drexel... Chose to attend USD for the great academics and the baseball program... Also earned all league honors while playing football at St. Augustine High School.
