He began coaching softball in 2009, serving as his daughters’ coach in the Navajo League. He has been a part of the league’s board for two years and managed three all-star teams. He also coached a competitive 12u team for two seasons.

Emery graduated from Grossmont High School in 1994, where he played football, soccer and baseball. After playing baseball at Mesa College for two years, he finished his degree at San Diego State.
