Sebastian Rey

Rey enters his fourth season as an assistant coach in 2022-23. 

In 2022, Rey helped guide the Toreros to perhaps the best season in program history. USD compiled a 23-4 overall record, including a perfect 9-0 in WCC play. San Diego won the WCC Championship over Pepperdine and later defeated UC Irvine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. August Holmgren completed one of the best seasons in USD Athletics history, including a run to the NCAA Singles title match. Holmgren was ranked the No. 1 singles player in the nation by the ITA heading into the spring after winning the ITA Fall National Championship. USD ranked as high as No. 17 during the season and finished No. 19 in the country, its highest final ranking in 32 years. 

Prior to joining USD, Rey served as assistant coach for two seasons at Middle Tennessee from 2017-2019. While on staff, he helped the Blue Raiders to a 40-17 overall record. 
 
In 2019, MT earned an NCAA Tournament bid after knocking off No. 1 seed Florida Atlantic to earn its first Conference USA title in program history. Rey earned Ohio Valley Assistant Coach of the Year honors for his contributions to the Raiders' success.

Rey played four seasons at Tulane, helping the Green Wave climb to a national ranking high of No.18 and finished his senior season at No. 30. The Wantage, England, native was 85-39 in singles play and had a record of 59-46 in doubles during his college career. 
 
His list of accomplishments and recognition includes ITA Southern Region Senior Player of the Year, three-time LSWA First Team All-Louisiana, and Second Team All-Conference USA. Rey cracked the ITA singles rankings for the first time as a senior, reaching as high on the list as No. 110. He rounded out his career ranked No. 66 in the country in doubles.
