The USD Toreros dropped their third straight game at the 2003 Dell BCA Classic, losing today to Coppin State by the score of 76-62. Junior center Brice Vounang led the way with 20 points for the Toreros. He was followed by Brad Lechtenberg's personal best 15 points and Nick Lewis with 11 points. Coppin State, from Baltimore, Maryland, was led by Chad Yates with 18 points. San Diego returns home Tuesday for a couple of days of practice before heading back to the midwest to take on Creighton University on Saturday, Nov. 22nd.

The Toreros fell behind by 12 points late in the first half but cut the halftime deficit to 7 points on a three-pointer by Brett Melton with :07 seconds left. Vounang had 11 of his 20 points by intermission. In the first 20 minutes Coppin State made 53.6% of its shots with Yates pouring in 14 points.

In the second half USD wasn't able to make a run against a very athletic and deep club that saw ten players play 14 or more minutes. Coppin State owned the boards outrebounding USD 39-27. The Toreros did improve in the turnover department where they finished with 17. One bright spot for USD was is free throw shooting where they converted 17-of-20 for 85%.
