SAN DIEGO (AP) - Brett Melton and Brice Vounang scored 20 points each as San Diego snapped a four-game losing streak with a 68-65 win over Southern Methodist on Friday night.
Vounang also grabbed 16 rebounds and Nick Lewis added 13 points for San Diego.
Melton hit five of seven 3-pointers in the second half. Four of them came during a 22-5 run that erased an 11-point deficit. That gave the Toreros a 50-44 lead at the 8:53 mark.
Southern Methodist took a 65-64 lead when Justin Isham tipped in his own missed shot with 1:12 left. But San Diego regained the lead at 66-65 on Michael Hubbard's backdoor lay-up with 35.8 seconds left.
After Isham missed a 3-point attempt with 16 seconds left, Melton made a pair of free throws.
Demetric Bennett led Southern Methodist (1-1) with 21 points. Kris Lowe added 18 points.
The Mustangs played without Bryan Hopkins, their leading scorer from last season.
