The University of San Diego women's basketball program is pleased to announce to addition of Kerri Nakamoto as an assistant coach for the 2003-04 season. Nakamoto completed an outstanding four-year playing career at USD as the best long-range shooter in school history.
As a guard for San Diego head coach Kathy Marpe from 2001-03, Nakamoto netted more three-pointers (200) than any other player to wear a USD uniform. Nakamoto was twice honored as an All-WCC selection. As a junior in 2001-02, Nakamoto led the WCC in three-point percentage (.460), ranking her fifth nationally among NCAA Division I players. In that same season, Nakamoto drained 64 treys, a USD single season school record.
During an MVP season in 2000-01 she led the Toreros in steals (49), assists (80) and three-pointers made (48). As a freshman in 1999-00, Nakamoto was a starting guard and recipient of the Coaches Award for a San Diego team that captured the West Coast Conference Championship and advanced into the NCAA Tournament.
Nakamoto will take on the role of San Diego's third assistant, contributing to practice planning as well as assisting with recruiting and scouting efforts.
