San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's basketball team, recently crowned the 2003 Champions of the West Coast Conference Basketball Championships, will find out their first-round opponent for the upcoming 2003 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament this coming Sunday, March 16th, when CBS TV airs their "Selection Show" at 3:00 p.m. (PST).
USD is extending an invitation to all campus community, alumni, Torero boosters and friends of USD to share in the excitement with the Torero basketball team as they await word on their first-round match-up for the "Road To March Madness." The "Selection Show" party will be held on USD's main campus at the University Center Forum A & B with doors opening at 2:00 pm. Head coach Brad Holland and his staff, along with the entire Torero basketball team, will be on hand for the announcement. Parking is available at the USD Parking Structure across from Torero Stadium. The event is free of charge.
The Toreros, with a record of 18-11, won the program's first ever men's WCC Tournament title, and are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the third time. Senior center Jason Keep was named the WCC Tournament Most Valuable Player, and he was joined on the WCC All-Tournament Team by senior team captain Matt Delzell and freshman forward Nick Lewis.
The last time USD appeared in 'The Big Dance' was in 1987 when they dropped a 62-61 decision to Auburn in Indianapolis, Indiana. USD's first appearance came in 1984 when the Toreros were downed by Princeton, 65-56.
All of USD's NCAA Tournament games will be broadcast commercially on radio at KCBQ 1170 AM with Jerry Gross (play-by-play) and Jim Brogan (color analyst) calling the action. The game will also be webcast at www.usdtoreros.com with Jack Murray calling all the action.
