Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Southwest Missouri State made 13-of-14 free throws in the final two minutes to hold off San Diego 73-62 Saturday night at Hammons Student Center.

Monwell Randle scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half as SMS pounded away on the inside to build a 34-28 halftime lead. SMS held a 41-28 rebounding edge and outscored San Diego 32-12 in the lane, much of that on second-chance baskets.

The Bears (8-5) led by as many as 11 in the second half, but a barrage of 3-pointers by the Toreros (3-11) cut the lead to 48-45 with 6:57 left in the game. A 7-0 run by Southwest Missouri stifled the rally and gave the Bears a 55-45 advantage.

Blake Ahearn scored 14 points and Tamarr Maclin finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for Southwest Missouri.

San Diego's Brett Melton was 7-of-11 from 3-point range and led all scorers with 23 points. Brad Lechtenberg, who was 5-of-8 from behind the arc, scored 15.
