Justin Blaine to enjoy an afternoon in which he registered a career-high nine strikeouts.
On Friday, USD defeated Evansville 2-0 behind a complete-game shutout from Torero sophomore Josh Butler. Blaine (3-1) matched Butler's dominance of the Purple Aces by allowing just one hit and five base-runners Sunday.
With the score 0-0 in the game's last frame, Evansville starter Fred Jones (0-1) issued a leadoff walk to San Diego's Shane Buschini and was replaced in favor of Purple Ace closer Mark Murray. Jones had pitched extremely well, allowing just one-hit en route to shutting down San Diego through six-plus innings. Murray, who pitched two scoreless innings earlier in the day during Evansville's 5-4 win over No. 19 Washington, was then ripped for four hits and four runs to open up a game that was dominated by Blaine and Jones.
