Tucson, Ariz. - After last week's season opener against No. 17 California was rained out, the University of San Diego was looking forward to the sunshine and heat that came with the Arizona desert. The Toreros were hoping to start off their season with an upset over the 39th-ranked Arizona Wildcats. Unfortunately, Arizona got off to a great start by capturing the doubles point and they never looked back. San Diego falls to 0-1 on the year, while Arizona improves to 5-0.

After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Wildcats looked to be in control over their West Coast Conference foes, as Camelia Todorova defeated freshman Helene Lindstrand 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot and Maja Mlaker took down Lauren Perl 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at the No. 1 position. The home team was able to clinch the contest after Kelley Perry overcame senior Lauren Kazarian 7-5, 6-2 at the four. Although the Toreros lost their remaining bouts, senior Tara Livesay, junior Emma Murphy, and redshirt sophomore Brittany Reitz showed heart and grit by extending their matches to three sets.

San Diego will return to action tomorrow morning, as they will take on their WCC counterpart Loyola Marymount at 11 A.M. at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Arizona.
