San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego defeated Princeton University 6-1 this afternoon at the USD West Tennis Courts. The Toreros, ranked No. 33 in the country and winners of their last eight matches, faced a formidable challenge in the unranked Tigers, but the home team proved to be too strong in both doubles and singles play.
The afternoon started off with San Diego capturing the doubles point after their No. 2 and No. 3 teams were victorious. Oscar Plotnik and Pierrick Ysern beat Hans Pluks and Andrew Lieu 8-4 and Robbie Blair and Thomas Liversage defeated Ted Mabrey and Sratha Saengsuwarn 8-2. The lone bright spot for the Tigers was the victory at No. 1 doubles, as Josh Burman and Darius Craton took an 8-3 decision over Nic Beuque and Mirza Koristovic.
Ysern got San Diego off to a great start in singles with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Burman at the No. 1 position. Beuque followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Craton on Court 2 and Blair sewed up the dual match with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Plukas at the No. 4 spot. Koristovic and Plotnik added to the Torero tally with victories at the No. 3 and No. 6 spots. Princeton a earned point at the No. 5 position, after Liversage dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (9) decision to Lieu.
The Toreros improve to 8-3, while the Tigers fall to 8-3 on the year. San Diego is in action tomorrow afternoon when Virginia Commonwealth (9-5) comes to town. Game time is at 1:30 P.M.
