Box Score

ATHENS, Ga. - The eighth-ranked University of San Diego baseball team (7-4) was shutout by the University of Georgia (4-0), 1-0, Friday afternoon in the first game of a three-game non-conference series at Foley Field.

The lone run of the game came in the sixth inning when Matt Robbins hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Josh Morris, who had walked. This was the first run that USD starter Josh Butler (3-1) has surrendered on the season, ending a 25 inning scoreless streak for the junior from Danville, Calif. On the day Butler allowed one run on four hits, while striking out five in six innings of work.

The Toreros were unable to give Butler any run support as they registered a season-low three hits. USD's bright spot offensively was the play of junior shortstop Steve Singleton as he increased his hit-streak to 11 games, going 2-for-4 on the day.

The Bulldogs starting pitcher Brooks Brown (1-0) was able to win the pitcher dual picking up the win for Georgia allowing no runs on three hits in seven complete innings of work. Joshua Fields was credited with a save for the Bulldogs allowing no runs on no hits in two innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday as they play game two of the three-game set with Georgia in an 11 a.m. (PST) non-conference game at Foley Field.
