Toreros Drop Conference Opener to Lumberjacks

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team dropped their opening conference meet to the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks by a score of 162.5 to 132.5 Saturday afternoon at the USD swim complex.

Sophomore Kristen Yoon took first place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.00) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:09.70). Junior Erin Voyles finished the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.52 for first place. Freshman Courtney Weigand swam to second place in a time of 10:37.14 in the 1000 freestyle.

Joy Miller captured two first place finishes and a second place finish against the Lumberjacks. In her 200 Individual Medly, she recorded a time of 2:14.91. She then swam a mark of 2:08.16 in the 200 butterfly. She then finished second place in a time of 59.13, only four one hundredths of a second behind the leader.

The Toreros wrapped up the meet with a strong finish in the 400 freestyle relay as the USD A squad (Altenau, Levesque, Vangerpen, and Voyles) recorded a mark of 3:42.62.

The Toreros will train through the holiday in preparation for their next meet at the UCI Relays on January 6, 2008 in Irvine, California.
